Job Summary

The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach online predominately synchronous graduate and undergraduate courses in Library and Information Science.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The School of Library and Information Science is seeking someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The School values accountability, time management, high ethical standards, and personal integrity among employees. This position will teach 4 courses per semester. Typical courses focus on technology in libraries, information science, and traditional library services—like cataloging, collection development, reference, literature, etc.

  • Responsible for communicating effectively with students and faculty.

  • Responsible for online synchronous teaching of graduate and undergraduate using active learning techniques.

  • Responsible for assessment of learning outcomes via assignments, discussions, and tests.

  • Attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings and appropriately contribute.

  • Attend virtual School events.

  • Mentor student research and mentor masters capstone research projects.

  • Follow School and University policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Library and Information Sciences or a related field is required for teaching graduate-level courses. A Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences is required. Experience teaching online. Established ability to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to teach online synchronous

  • Adept in Microsoft Office applications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals

  • Excellent organization and time-management skills

  • Resourceful and determined to provide a positive experience for others

  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to navigate LMS (preferably Canvas)

  • Ability to teach in LIS core

  • Ability to work evenings

Preferred Qualifications

One year experience in a professional information setting (i.e., library, archive, museum, etc.). Demonstrated competence in emergent technologies.
