Job Summary
Performs general maintenance repairs in residence halls, sorority houses, fraternity houses, and Cedarbrook II apartments in the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Replaces damaged ceiling tile and floor tile. Paints and patches walls, ceilings, and doors as instructed. Selects, cuts, trims, and processes lumber as specified using hand and power tools and woodworking machines.
Repairs drains, lavatories, flush-valves, fixtures and pipes as instructed. Installs bathroom and shower room accessories such as towel bars, soap dispensers, tissue holders, and clothes hooks.
Repairs wire, switches, outlets, lights and equipment as instructed. Assists in replacing air condition grills, filters and HVAC equipment, and supports departmental housekeeping personnel as needed.
Performs general maintenance as instructed and after hours, weekend or break and holiday on-call responsibilities as needed.
Repairs or replaces doors, door closures, and door locks.
Assists in moving, relocating and set-up of furniture, and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience. Driver's License Required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiar with various tools, machines, and procedures used in maintenance trades.
Safe use of measuring devices, and power tools such as drills, saws, planers, drill presses as well as screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, and hammers.
Safe use of university vehicles, golf carts, and personnel lifts
Ability to read and understand written work order(s)
Ability to understand and complete verbal requests
Ability to manage own time
Ability to solve minor work-related issues
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer 3 years of work experience in similar or related field of work, familiarity with computer-based time clock and familiarity with maintenance work order systems.
