The Hartford is looking for a Digital Content Writer to work with a highly collaborative team to create digital experiences with meaningful impact.

Our ideal candidate is a team player with a great attitude who understands web writing, SEO best practices and brand-centered storytelling. The Digital Content Writer will craft various content types – including website copy, blog posts, thought leadership and product descriptions – that address our target audiences and promote our brand. The candidate will research industry topics and trends, optimize content for organic search, write and edit pieces, and collaborate with other writers and marketers to ensure brand consistency. Ideal candidates will be creative, strategic, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office in Hartford, CT 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities

  • Write captivating copy that solves problems, delivers results and is consistent with brand identity and business strategy

  • Understands brand tone, voice, guidelines and hig.com style guide and adapts editing/writing to uphold quality, brand standards and SEO best practices

  • Engage strategically with lines of business and other internal partners to drive the use of content as a function to achieve The Hartford’s goals, this includes understanding industry trends and business strategies and priorities

  • Work with internal and external partners to understand complex business ideas, diving deep into a range of insurance industry topics to unearth and articulate human truths and ultimately develop narratives that tell compelling stories

  • Interviews subject matter experts, drawing out compelling insights for use in content development and writes LOB articles as needed

  • Accountable for user insights and competitive research surrounding thought leadership agenda to further LOB objectives

  • Participate in all stages of work from ideation to production

  • Collaborates with enterprise and business line marketing teams to ensure multi-channel alignment, efficiency and quality

  • Work closely with SMEs to help translate their message simply and elegantly

  • Help quickly and expertly develop internal client ideas and goals into fleshed-out topic proposals

  • Generate new topic ideas based on business priorities and SME insights

  • Analyze content performance to make informed digital recommendations

  • Partners with SEO to ensure implementation of content strategies support (or don’t deter from) organic best practices

Qualifications

  • Four+ years of digital content strategy, copywriting, marketing, or equivalent experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of writing for the web is a must, solid knowledge of SEO, and a high degree of understanding of the evolving digital landscape

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate best practices, grammar, and style choices in a professional and constructive manner

  • Advanced copy-editing skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to comfortably present to all levels within an organization

  • Advanced time management and analytics skills with ability to manage a range of deadlines and competing priorities

  • A keen understanding of audience needs and expectations

  • Experience managing a budget

  • A solid portfolio including web examples, preferably that spans thought leadership, digital and brand storytelling

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$81,280 - $121,920
