When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us. * * Job Summary: This position provides financial support for all research projects conducted across the Hartford HealthCare enterprise. In collaboration with the Manager of Grants and Contracts, this position provides oversight of all research project financial activities including analysis of financial data to forecast expected research expenses, corrective adjustments and future trend reporting. The position provides timely recommendations to improve results and performance related to project budgets and timelines. The role involves frequent interactions with external Federal, State and Foundation funding agencies in developing required comprehensive research financial statements, charts and progress reports. Job Responsibilities: _Research Financial Accounting_ · Summarize and prepare accurate accounting financial reports of research activity, including profit and loss statements, and other necessary reports; present to department, Institute and executive management. · Analyze current/prior financial data by project and generate monthly trend reports and balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accuracy of financial budgets; provide forecasting support for management. · Analyze complex financial reports and records to determine project progress. · Calculate variances from research budgets and report significant issues to management and research investigators. · Ensure there are sufficient funds available in project budget to meet financial obligations by reviewing monthly budgets/cost reports and making necessary adjustments. · Responsible for the management of the ClinCard Research Subject payment system. · Responsible for project account setup, reporting costs to date and project forecasting. · Prepare financial reports for external agencies and department management/investigators. · Create project analysis tables by revising, sorting and calculating results as required. · Interpret complicated financial information to management/investigators. · Invoice Foundation and industry sponsor billing and research and resolve invoice discrepancies. · Manage accounts payable and receivable reports to ensure timely collection of payments. · Build and maintain budgets and forecast templates for use by managers/ investigators. · Sort/mine large sets of data from multiple data sources (PeopleSoft general ledger, BI, iRIS). · Ensure that internal accounting procedures comply with Hartford HealthCare and GAAP policy and procedures. · Evaluate accounting procedures to develop, recommend and implement area changes to increase accuracy and efficiencies. · Maintain Master Budgets (Federal, State, Industry, and Internal) and project personnel reports. · Develop research project expense/revenue reports for each Hartford HealthCare Institute. · Review aging reports and follow up with Investigators /Departments regarding balance in accounts. · Financially close study budgets and residual accounts. · Investigate and correct project deficits. · Participate in annual department goal setting activities and month-end and year-end close processes. · Educate and train Investigators/Departments system-wide on internal processes. _Federal Award Accounting_ · Reconcile Federal Cost Reports with Accounting Department and PeopleSoft system; complete reports with principal investigators and provide all supporting accounting backup. · Federal Time and Effort Reporting - Maintain Federal effort databases and prepare monthly reports. Ensure reports are in compliance with Federal regulations and Hartford HealthCare policies. · Prepare subaward budgets for Primary Federal awardee. Perform month-end and year-end account reconciliations for Federal research budgets. · Create and process Federal project budgets for new periods. · Prepare and maintain Federal Financial Progress Reports. · Provide support to project investigators for required financial reports. · Initiate correspondence with Federal agencies regarding project needs. · Stay up-to-date on Federal (NIH) guidelines/policies and report to Manager. _Grant Submissions_ · Collaborates with Hartford HealthCare research investigators to prepare grant submissions to Federal, State and Foundation Agencies. · Review and negotiate project sponsor contracts · Maintenance of amendments and Contract changes. * BA – Accounting and Finance required. * 3 plus years of experience in grants and contracts administration, and 5 plus years of Financial Accounting preferred. * 5 years in Grants and Contracts. 2 plus years in Accounting * Experience in creating charts/tables in Excel. Ability to generate accounting spreadsheets, forecast and project financial data. Experience with financial reporting requirements. Experience with contract negotiations and preparation of Research sponsor funded budgets.
