Select Genetics Poult Service Tech-Part Time in Harrisonburg, Virginia
The Hatchery Poult Technician is responsible for learning and supporting hatchery operations while optimizing quality output by providing services to the newly hatched poults based on the customer orders under the direction of the Service Room Supervisor.
Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across North America and has operations in eight states.
The Service Room Technician
Assists in unloading boxes of poults onto the Gender Tech Wheel;
Clips the poult’s talons;
Performs Dew-claw treatment;
Performs De-snoot treatment;
Checks the customers’ orders to see what medication is requested for the poults;
Injects the poults with medication using the PSP machines;
Separates the toms and the hens, placing them in the correct box;
Move boxes of poults after servicing in preparation for shipment;
Rotates between positions;
Performs some sanitation duties to ensure a safe and clean environment.
The work requires the Service Room Technician
To follow all of the company’s for bio security, animal welfare and safety.
To work as a team to achieve the company’s goals;
To be organized to ensure the tasks are completed correctly and in a timely manner;
To be flexible and able to work in many different positions while rotating tasks/positions;
To be knowledgeable about the different types of medicine vaccinations;
To handle the poults with extreme care to prevent injury; to lift boxes of poults weighing approximately 15 lbs;
To be exposed to dust, humidity, chemicals, and fumes;
To be available and willing to work an extended workday or other days as needed.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Prior experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
Ability to communicate verbally with others; ability to listen; ability to read to perform the duties of the job. Bilingual Spanish speaking ability desired.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time, to walk, and to use hands for the entire work shift; ability to be exposed to dust, humidity, chemicals, and fumes.
Ability to lift 15 lbs and to bend, stoop and squat to complete job duties;
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Willing and able to work an extended work shift and other days as needed.
