Semester: Fall 2024

Position Summary and Purpose: Develop engineering discipline for product lines by studying customer requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials. In addition, this role will pursue continuous improvement of safety, quality, and efficiency through the enhancement of existing processes and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Assist Kaizen teams and foster involvement of all associates in lean practices and efforts.

  • Data collection, entry and analysis with improvement plans. May include, but not limited to productivity, total productive maintenance (TPM), downtime, scrap and change over initiatives.

  • Leads 5S efforts, including planning, implementing, leading and supporting plant floor and maintenance activities.

  • Perform cycle time studies to create and validate production standards including standardized work.

  • Process layout and material flow.

  • Identify and implement cost and waste reduction activities.

  • Recommend improvement to the manufacturing process.

  • Assist Continuous Improvement Manager in lean activities to support production in hitting daily tasks.

Education and Experience: REQUIRED:

  • Must be a currently enrolled, degree seeking student from an accredited engineering program majoring in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management or Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering.

*Will interview those pursuing Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering but this co-op opportunity is in an Industrial setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Characteristics, etc. REQUIRED:

  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills required.

  • Working knowledge of computer application software such as MS Office, AutoCAD, ERP (training will be provided if needed).

  • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, manufacturing environment.

  • Must be organized and work well with constantly priority changes.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

Physical demands: The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
