Director, Account Management Emerging Verticals

Overview

The Emerging Verticals team manages merchant relationships and drives revenue in underpenetrated verticals for card acceptance. The Director of Account Management will focus on expanding Mastercard's acceptance and solutions —including Data & Services, Cyber & Intelligence, Open Banking, and digital offerings — within key merchants, particularly in the strategic 1-to-many vertical (ISVs, ISOs, Payfacs, Gateways).

The Director will enhance commerce and strengthen relationships with key merchants, driving value for Mastercard and our customers. This will be achieved by articulating acceptance value propositions that deliver results and align with our financial and strategic goals. Additionally, building and broadening our overall relationships at all levels of the merchants.

This role is ideal for you if you are a natural relationship builder, seller and negotiator who thrives in a cross-functional environment. You are a pro at managing multiple clients and priorities simultaneously.

Role

-Provide outstanding account management through strategic planning—by understanding customer needs, developing innovative solutions, and collaborating with internal teams to assemble the necessary resources that deliver exceptional value to clients

-Identify and develop new business opportunities with existing and prospective customers, qualifying leads and engaging product experts to advance the sales process

-Create detailed business cases with financial analysis to support merchant initiatives.

-Negotiate, execute and manage customer contract agreements

-Support key organizational initiatives, including cross-selling Mastercard products and solutions to strengthen customer relationships

-Collaborate with customers to understand their business needs and effectively guide them through complex buying cycles

-Become a subject matter expert in your vertical, acting as a trusted payments advisor to clients and an internal thought leader

All About You

-Strong sales and account management experience (revenue generating)

-Experience in payments preferred

-Bachelor’s degree required

-Proven sales track record in planning, managing, and closing complex sales efforts, consistently delivering results in a fast-paced environment with urgency and precision

-Strong problem-solving skills, capable of identifying key issues, structuring analyses, and developing compelling business cases with actionable recommendations

-Dynamic team player with a forward-thinking mindset, skilled at engaging internal resources to drive success and contribute to a wider team environment

-Ability to manage and grow internal and external relationships with executives at all levels

-Proficient in managing multiple clients and competing priorities effectively

-Travel up to 30% may be required

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. New York City, New York: $172,000 - $275,000 USD
