Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Engineer with expertise in Heavy Civil Construction to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in project cost management, ensuring accurate estimation, monitoring, and control of costs throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation:

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.

  • Analyze project specifications and drawings to identify potential cost risks and opportunities.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with project managers to establish project budgets and track expenditures against approved budgets.

  • Provide regular cost forecasts based on project progress and potential variations.

  • Cost Control:

  • Implement robust cost control measures to identify and address cost overruns or discrepancies promptly.

  • Work closely with project teams to analyze and reconcile any deviations from the budget.

  • Data Analysis:

  • Utilize cost data and historical project information to enhance accuracy in future cost estimates.

  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making processes.

  • Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential risks related to project costs, proposing mitigation strategies to ensure financial success.

  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management:

  • Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate bids and proposals from vendors and subcontractors.

  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions to optimize project cost efficiency.

  • Reporting:

  • Generate regular and ad-hoc reports on project costs, providing insights to management for informed decision-making.

  • Present cost-related information clearly and concisely to stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in cost engineering.

  • Implement improvements to cost engineering processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills

Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Cost Engineer in heavy civil construction projects.

  • Strong knowledge of cost estimation techniques and principles.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools such as cost estimating software, Excel, and project management tools.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
