DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services aims to safeguard and maintain the safety of food throughout the entire food production process. This is achieved through education, regulation, and ensuring compliance with food safety laws and regulations. As part of this role, you will be responsible for conducting chemical and physical analysis of various food products, including human food, animal feed, agronomic products, and environmental samples. The purpose of these analyses is to determine compliance with the regulatory standards established and enforced by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Additionally, you will be tasked with analyzing both raw agricultural commodities and processed commodities for adherence to USDA and/or state organic program standards, using approved methods such as those provided by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Association of Official Analytical Collaboration (AOAC), or internal standard operating procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Chemist 1; or One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor's degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or A graduate degree in chemistry.
