The Assistant Buyer is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and procuring functions directly associated with the purchasing of products to be sold in stores. This position is required to have effective communication with vendors and secure appropriate deals on merchandise that meets the company's margin expectations. Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Initiate and direct various aspects of the buying process to ensure purchase of the best products at the best price.
  • Work with Buyer to help develop allocation plans which support the departmental goals to increase sales.
  • Work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products and build relationships.
  • Attend trade shows to keep informed of new products and build vendor relations.
  • Research products and markets for competitive knowledge.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Supervisor for a designated category or categories of responsibility.
  • Recommend and suggest which products should be featured in advertising.
  • Evaluate retails, discount terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise.
  • Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to determine sales and how much inventory is needed.
  • Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors' degree preferred.
  • Higher education, including two and four year degrees related to business management preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a professional environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to complete assignments in the time allotted.

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Travel to trade shows including overnight travel is required.
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
