DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position works within the Black Fly Suppression Program, centered out of the Bureau of Labs in Harrisburg.  In this position, you will work closely with the aquatic biologist supervisor to provide support in collecting routine samples from rivers and streams across a large regional area. The incumbent in this position will gain experience in collecting aquatic macroinvertebrates specific to black flies, assisting with spray operations, evaluating post-spray results, and interpreting sample results of data collected in the field.

While in this position, you will also assist program staff with field studies of treated streams in the Program, GIS mapping, identification of sample sites, and the preparation of reports.

Limited term full-time. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Occasional travel is required for overnight travel statewide. Overtime is also required with extended hours needed for collecting black flies for spray decisions and spray operations. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. A bachelor's degree with a major in a biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management, including or supplemented by six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework;OR An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework.
