Armed Services YMCA of The U S A Preschool Teacher Aide in Harker Heights, Texas

SUMMARY

The Preschool Teacher Aide will assist the Preschool Teacher in preparing children for elementary school by developing their vocabulary, social skills, behavior and will effectively create and deliver academic preschool curriculum.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supporting the planning and conducting an effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child based upon stated goals and a curriculum plan

  • Follows Implements daily schedule and activity plans that have been reviewed by the Preschool Teacher. Arranges room play and materials to accommodate the daily schedule. Assists in setting up displays and bulletin boards.

  • May assist in accurately documenting attendance, absentees and current emergency records for each child.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for children. Ensures the safety and sanitation of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, etc.

  • Completes and submits required reports such as: incident reports, in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings as requested and be prepared to coordinate, research, and share resources with other facilitators.

  • Work with supervisor to produce a monthly calendar of activities to be turned in prior to the last week of the month.

  • Assists in appropriate play and learning activities to foster individual and group activity development. Leads children in songs, games, finger plays and other activities.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of program information.

Mandatory Certifications:

  • Complete required ASYMCA safety trainings

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • Maintain a valid child abuse history clearance.

  • Successfully complete the State Police Criminal Record Check and F.B.I. fingerprints screening. Results are required at time of hire

-The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.

-Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to safely supervise children activities.

-The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 30 pounds.

-Prioritizes and ability to multi-task requiring good memory, concentrations, and analytical thinking.

Work Environment:

The work environment is generally set in a classroom like setting, may be required to venture outside for children’s activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Travel:

Travel is not required for this position.

Education and Experience:

· High School diploma/GED.

· 1-2 years experience working with pre-school aged children(preferred).

· Ability to communicate effectively with children and parents.

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to identify and deal with carious child care situations.

.Must be able to resolve conflicts effectively in a professional and positive manner.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in writing reports and lesson planning.

· Demonstrable ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines

Pay: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour
