We are seeking a licensed Master Electrician who is open to a flexible schedule to be responsible for preventative maintenance and installation/repairs of the electrical/mechanical tunnel and bridge systems equipment in support of a 24/7/365 operating environment VDOT contract. The qualified applicant will be responsible for preventive maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical/mechanical and digital tunnel and bridge systems equipment. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the responsibilities below.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain electrical wiring system and components in accordance with the provisions of the National Electrical Code and Industry Standards.
• Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures to identify equipment and/or systems for repair.
• Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for making decisions.
• Inspect electrical systems and their components to evaluate their condition, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance actions.
• Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time, and materials of electrical work.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
• Maintain, test, and repair electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; plan the layout and wiring of new or existing installations.
• Fabricate electrical parts; inspect completed work to conform with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable exterior and interior safety codes and regulations.
• Inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time, and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop.
• Clean, maintain, and service tools and equipment used while performing duties.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical load centers and distribution systems.
• Analyze electrical plant operational characteristics, recommend deficiency corrections, and respond safely and appropriately to emergencies.
