Equinor North Development Program 2025 - Environmental Engineer in Hammerfest, Norway

What does the job involve?

Responsible for expert advice, risk and due diligence assessments, and operational support to the business line and corporate functions on climate and environmental policy, performance management and reporting. This includes operational environmental management in licenses and handling of regulatory requirements and permits.

You are utilizing your knowledge in a specific area to carry out tasks that have a short-term operational impact/risk. You independently complete assigned work, either with limited guidance or by following well-defined guidelines and procedures, in order to achieve targets set by others that have an impact on your immediate team as well as other work areas. ​You effectively communicate facts, practices, and policies to individuals within your immediate team as well as external parties, with others support. You may navigate potentially conflicting agendas. You adhere to established procedures and tackle occasionally complex challenges by identifying and resolving them. You proactively seek continuous improvement and embrace change and ambiguity. You demonstrate flexibility to adopt new activities and ways of working while also taking ownership of your work. You follow and comply with safety, ethics, and compliance requirements and align with leadership expectations and company values.

This position is part of the North Development program. You will receive a development and learning opportunity and be given stretch tasks and responsibility at an early stage. Your first three years in this role may see you on an exchange between our northern Norway locations.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Work to support Equinor's sustainability agenda across multiple business areas and collaborate with a broad range of colleagues to monitor, advise and challenge operations in your area of responsibility.

  • Become the go to person for advice on environment and climate, and will be presented with the opportunity to directly influence a number of stakeholders both off and onshore.

  • Providing support and advice, and challenging asset management on environmental management.

  • Be up-to-date on environmental regulations, requirements and applicable standards.

  • Support asset management in environmental permit follow up.

  • Prepare authority applications and other documentation, including reporting to relevant authorities.

  • Be up-to-date on operational conditions and contribute to better environmental efficiency and reaching of ambitious targets.

  • Support and advise asset management on climate and environmental risk evaluations, and follow up risk as part of integrated risk management.

  • Participate in environmental improvement projects.

  • Participate in verifications related to environment and climate.

  • A master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Natural Sciences or Environmental Management. A bachelor’s degree will also be considered if accompanied by additional experience. Completed degree by August 2025.

  • No more than three years of relevant fulltime work experience.

  • Previous experience of working in an Oil & Gas or Production environment, or of working in Sustainability or a similarly regulated environment.

  • A proficient communicator, able to advise and influence both senior and operational colleagues.

  • The ability to plan and organize your own day and workload, with attention to detail for reporting and data.

  • The ability to read, write and speak effectively in Norwegian.

  • An interest and dedication to sustainability and Equinor's strategy.

  • Willingness to live in Hammerfest or Harstad.
