Overview: Quinnipiac University is seeking a Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards. The Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards is responsible for leading and managing the student conduct process for individual students and student organizations to ensure efficiency, consistency, fairness, and legal compliance. The Director works in the Dean of Students office, reports to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and is responsible for leading efforts to educate the university community on responsible community membership and to ensure that students and other stakeholders are familiar with the student conduct process and individual student rights and responsibilities.

  Responsibilities:

• Student Conduct

• Lead and manage the Student Conduct Process for individual students and student organizations to ensure efficiency, consistency, fairness, and legal compliance

• Manage the Maxient case management software system and ensure that all users of the system are properly trained and able to successfully access and use the system

• Serve as a senior conduct officer and address cases and facilitate student conduct meetings that may result in a separation from the institution and/or other high-profile cases

• Meet with students to review the student conduct and appeals process and prepare them for their meetings

• Directly hire, train, develop, and supervise the Associate Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards

• Train and assist all conduct officers, resident assistants, orientation leaders, and other campus partners with the student conduct process regarding reporting, procedures, meetings, sanctioning, and record keeping

• Partner with university constituents, including but not limited to: residential life, public safety, health and wellness, academic integrity, and the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement/Title IX regarding student conduct matters to ensure appropriate support

• Represent the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at orientation sessions for students and families

• Develop and maintain correspondence as appropriate concerning current and past student behavior

• Continuously update the Student Conduct Process and Student Code of Conduct

• Develop and promote a comprehensive educational program for the community focused

on responsible community membership

• Confirm past conduct history as necessary for employment background checks, transfer and graduate applications, study abroad, and leadership positions according to university policy

• Review conduct sanctions to ensure consistency and compliance with institutional policies

and standards

• Oversee conduct planning, goals, and assessment initiatives and projects

• Additional Responsibilities

• Oversee the budget for the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards

• Assist the on-call staff with crisis intervention and appropriate action related to interim measures

• Review, revise, and distribute the Student Handbook, which outlines the code of conduct for all QU students, updating policies and procedures in accordance with legal and policy developments at the state and federal level as needed

• Facilitate a weekly meeting to discuss incidents and next steps with several stakeholders including public safety, CARE, and residential life

• Serve as a member of the CARE Team

• Respect and maintain appropriate privacy and records management

• Maintain active membership and involvement in state, regional, and national associations related to student conduct

• Serve on university-wide committees

• This position requires the ability to work some evening and weekend hours to support a primarily residential campus

• Serve in the administrator on-call rotation as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned

  Education Requirements:

• Master's degree required

• Doctoral degree preferred

  Qualifications:

• 5-7 years of full-time professional experience in higher education required; 3-5 years of professional experience in a Student Conduct office preferred

• Excellent organizational, management, budgetary, and leadership skills are required

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required

• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs

• Experience with Maxient software preferred

• Knowledge of theories and best practices in student development and student affairs

• Understanding of federal and state laws related to student conduct, such as FERPA, Title IX, and the Clery Act

• Skilled in conflict resolution, mediation, and restorative justice practices

• Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating student conduct policies and procedures

• Proficiency in managing and adjudicating student conduct cases with attention to detail and in a timely way, including conducting investigations and hearings

• Ability to build effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders

• Ability to approach student conduct issues with empathy and a student-centered perspective

• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
