Job Summary
Optimize environmental processes within the assigned power generating facilities of the Fossil and Hydro organization. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations. As assigned, position will be the facility point of contact for environmental issues and, as needed or assigned, for industrial hygiene issues.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1) Assure compliance with all environmental regulations applicable to the plant for operation and maintenance. As applicable, recommendations will be made to plant management directed at ensuring compliance with company policies and state and federal environmental regulations through guidelines and procedures as well as actively leading, facilitating and coordinating work activities of others to complete routine required activities. This includes, where needed, actively working with plant personnel to assure environmental compliance when any modifications to the physical plant or operating procedures are planned or undertaken.
2) Provide day-to-day interfacing, as needed, with the applicable AEP Environmental Services sections, Safety and Health Section, Regional Engineering and Engineering sections to assure compliance with environmental regulations.
3) Coordinate, as required, regulatory reporting to environmental agencies; ensure that regulatory notifications are made as needed to regulatory agencies for any releases and upset conditions; monitor the implementation of operations and maintenance procedures for plant environmental control equipment (CEMS, WWTFs, ESPs, etc.) and identify, clarify, resolve and initiate solutions to complex problems encountered; use cost effective strategies and productivity improvement methods in all applicable duties; and serve as needed as the focal point for regulatory agencies.
4) Support the Plant Industrial Hygiene Coordinator (PIHC) assigned to common facilities to effectively implement AEP IH policies and OSHA regulations. Coordinate with the PIHC compliance program implementation that integrates Env and IH disciplines.
5) As assigned, optimize reduction efforts for NOx, SO2, Hg, CO2 and other regulated air emissions to ensure compliance with impending and current regulations.
6) Coordinate and/or provide, as needed, required and appropriate environmental and industrial hygiene (in coordination with the PIHC) training of employees with a thorough understanding of training elements.
7) Participate in planning and implementing community based and other civic programs involving environmental matters (e.g., earth day activities, environmental events at schools and other similar activities).
8) Assist with economic analysis of environmental compliance and industrial hygiene projects.
9) Assure safety of environmental compliance and IH activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering or other Applicable Science field.
Work Experience requirement listed below: Six years experience in environmental program implementation or equivalent education and experience. Advanced degree may provide credit for part of the experience requirement if in an applicable field. This is the career-level job for this job family.
