UL, LLC Senior Engineering Technician - Nova Scotia in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Looking for a driven individual with field evaluation (special inspection) experience to serve manufacturers in the Atlantic Canada region. Position is remote type, to be based out of Halifax, NS.
Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements. Acts to address client concerns and to resolve complex client issues. Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements. Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications, and notifies client.
Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. Serves as Project Handler of record and signs as Reviewer of record as assigned.
Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
May represent UL on technical committees and/or industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
Directs and reviews work of assigned staff. Trains field evaluation staff. Provides technical assistance in several product categories, operations or systems to field evaluation staff.
Performs other duties as directed.
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree with P. Eng license preferable with at least 4 years work experience in the electrical, hazardous locations, medical and/or gas fields.
Hazardous Locations Field Certification work experience: CSA 30, CSA 213, CSA 157, NFPA 496, CSA 60079-0, CSA 60079-1, CSA 60079-7, CSA 60079-11, CSA 286, CSA 14, CSA 61010-1.
Field Evaluation (Special Inspection) work experience: CSA SPE-1000, CSA SPE-3000 and CSA B149.3 preferred.
Ablility to work independently and make technical decisions while on site with ability to multitask.
Assists with mentoring and qualification of junior field evaluation staff.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
Ability to work remotely with frequent travel. Position requires approx. 70% travel time to conduct inspections and perform tests at client sites.
