Manulife Manager, Risk and Controls in Halifax, Nova Scotia
The Manager, Risk and Controls is responsible for executing core elements of the Risk Management Framework and managing Risk and Control Self-Assessments for GWAM Retirement Operations. The incumbent will ensure that the business understands its risks and has robust standards, controls, and practices in place to mitigate risks that could impact its strategic objectives.
Reporting to the Director, Risk and Controls Governance, this role is integral in building operational discipline and proactively managing risk to improve the risk culture within the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
Execute core elements of the Risk Management Framework.
Assist in the development, monitoring, and closure of corrective action plans (CAPs).
Support the lifecycle of risk and control self-assessments, including walkthroughs, understanding risks and controls, and developing CAPs for unstable risks.
Consult on projects and business changes to ensure risk profiles are not negatively impacted while maintaining ease of business operations.
Maintain awareness of risk and control issues from self-identification, internal, or external audits.
Understand and monitor Key Risk & Performance Indicators to identify negative trends and control gaps.
Develop and maintain strong business relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including internal audit and second-line risk partners.
Deliver presentations to senior audiences and participate in meetings related to operational risk and control.
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience leading risk and control self-assessments or similar transferable skills.
Familiarity with audit methodologies and internal control systems.
Knowledge of risk management tools and platforms.
Working knowledge of retirement plan services operations.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA, other graduate degree or advanced studies (including industry risk certifications) and/or Recognized accounting (CPA) or auditing (CIA, CISA) designation preferred.

Salary range is expected to be between
$78,975.00 CAD - $142,155.00 CAD
