About You and this role

Dow Technical Expertise and Support (TES) has an exciting opportunity for aMaterials Engineerlocated inHahnville, LA. This position is responsible for providing failure analysis, materials selection, corrosion control, and asset integrity management advice at a large integrated petrochemical facility. Internal clients range from engineering services, new construction projects, operating production facilities, maintenance, and utility operations. In this role, you will work closely with a group of highly experienced engineers and technicians to provide technical advice and recommendations. This position requires hands-on field work during investigations of corrosion and mechanical failures.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Fixed Asset Integrity Management Leader and site Plant Assessment Teams (PAT).

  • Provide Materials Engineering support in the uses and applications of metallic and nonmetallic materials in new projects and existing plant equipment. This includes support for proper material selection, specifications, testing, and inspection.

  • Ensure that materials-related inspection and repair are executed as per the specification, codes, and Dow Practices

  • Perform on-site and shop inspections and audits to drive equipment integrity for new equipment and repairs.

  • Provide Materials Engineering support for application of coatings and linings, including specifying types of coatings to be used in different applications.

  • Work with inspectors and maintenance engineers in the troubleshooting and repair of vessels, tanks, and piping to maximize safety and reliability.

  • Provide technical support and guidance related with the materials engineering during the plant turnarounds and shutdowns. It may include technical review and field assessment.

  • Willingness to attend technical training to gain expertise in the Corrosion Engineering field.

  • Support EH&S engagement, particularly in the field and in the areas of personal safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a discipline in Materials Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is required.

  • At least 3-5 years of manufacturing, engineering, or related experience required.

  • Periodic confined space entry and elevated work such as scaffolding and man-lifts will be required.

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • Materials engineering, corrosion engineering or metallurgical engineering.

  • Good written and oral communication skills. The job includes leading/facilitating team and group meetings as well as interacting with project teams, vendors and inspectors.

  • Good interpersonal skills and function successfully in a collaborative environment.

  • Planning and organizational skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

  • Attention to detail necessary to maintain the required documentation.
