Role Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Accountabilities
Accounts Payable Management: Helps achieve Tucker’s strategic objective to be a broker of choice for all motor carriers and vendors through proactive accounts payable management, ensuring timely and accurate entering and payment of invoices, maximizing Tucker supplier satisfaction.
GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) Compliance: Ensure the financial records are consistently prepared in accordance with GAAP for all balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts.
Holder of Master Budget: Support in-depth creation, management, and education of departmental budget procedure and ensure departmental leaders are making financial recommendations in accordance with established process.
Payroll: Ensures company payroll and payroll platform is effective, timely, accurate, tax compliant, and aligns with the Company’s growth strategy.
Formulate and administer financial policies and procedures, including the establishment and maintenance of internal fiscal controls and safeguarding of company assets, including the maintenance of GAAP accounting principles, for all balance sheet and revenue and expense accounts.
Modify and maintain informative chart of account.
Responsibilities:
Create, evolve/enhance, implement, and manage accounting processes and procedures to support Tucker’s strategic plan and growth objectives. .
Demonstrates fluency in customer strategic plans by serving as key stakeholder as needed.
Ensure Tucker’s Credit, Collections and accounting processes are in sync with, are responsive to, and fully support the Company’s external customers, our carriers, and our internal teams and individuals.
Proactively innovate, optimize, and Manage department specific quality management procedures, record keeping, and documents adhering to ISO standards and legal compliance. Ensuring completeness and accuracy of compliant practices.
Hands on management and oversight in all day-to-day accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed asset accounting, and revenue/expense recognition.
Perform thorough review of monthly/quarterly and annual financial results versus budget and prior periods, identifying key financial and operational KPI trends, large variances, unusual activity and other potential identified concerns, and prepare/present monthly financial package to senior management
Ensure all tax matters are managed collaboratively through key stakeholders.
Compare actual performance with sales and operating plans including the use of key departmental KPI’s and discuss with management Periodically, as requested.
Post adjusting journal entries and accruals for balance sheet and P&L accounts.
Interpret operating results as they affect the organization and make specific recommendations that will result in cost reduction and profit improvement.
Evaluate the effectiveness and utilization of ERP system as it realtes to accounting and collaborate with key stakeholders when training needs are identified. Maintain, manage, and recommend improvements when necessary the company’s relationships with banks.
Ad hoc reporting and special projects as requested.
Establish and manage standard expenses across all functions and ensure expenses are continuously accurately allocated in relation to departmental activities.
Ensure all state and federal correspondence is handled timely and with due diligence, including managing the compliance of annual W-2 and 1099 filings.
Oversee/prepare timely and accurate monthly bank, credit card and other account reconciliations.
Analyze profit (loss) per customer and job and identify high and low performers.
Create budgeted cash flow and weekly cash flow reports.
Oversee creation of, and review Daily Flash report.
Create and update annual breakeven on quarterly basis or as requested.
Assists company’s Contract Management and Critical Vendor Process by informing the accountable party at Tucker of all first-time vendors upon entry into Tucker’s A/P system.
Accountable Supervisory Duties:
Lead, manage, optimize, and develop accounting staff to ensure team members align with strategic objectives, initiatives, policies, and procedures and foster a sense of purpose.
Champion the company’s behavior standards and instill a sense of accountability across team members and cross-departmentally to foster a sense of belonging.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Undergraduate or Master’s degree, area of concentration Accounting
1-2 years’ experience as Controller in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
Experience as a people leader.
Preferred Skills
CPA, or parts of CPA exam completed, scheduled to be completed, or plans to be completed.
Experience in Power BI
Ability to work with others to achieve departmental goals and deadlines
Communicate effectively and efficiently with team members, customers, and external vendors
Demonstrate ability to take initiative and work independently
Proficiency in MS Office and aptitude to learn other related software
Intermediate to advanced Excel
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience in the freight forwarding/logistics broker industry
