A Day in the Life

The job provides the candidate with continuous training and long-term career growth development opportunities with a leading global medical device and technology company. Medtronic India is one of the fastest growing emerging markets in the Medtronic. The role provides the successful candidate with unique professional experiences and tremendous exposure to the Medtronic India business areas and support functions Medtronic India, regional, and global controllership as well as other global finance functions there Medtronic internal and external stakeholders.

As the Financial Controller, you will provide leadership and oversight for financial reporting and internal controls, internal & statutory audits, finance policy and tax compliance for Medtronic India across Operator, Steward, Catalyst, and Strategist areas of responsibility

Operator:

  • Deliver financial closing and reporting in compliance with US GAAP and India statutory financial standards

  • Review and sign off balance sheet account reconciliations and attest balance sheet controls

  • Ensure timely statutory and regulatory reporting, including audits and tax filings

  • Lead and provide account services across value-streams to business areas with support from shared services and BPO

  • Provide oversight and collaborate with Treasury functions for local entity banking, funding, and foreign exchange management

  • Provide oversight and collaborate with Tax functions for local entity corporate tax, indirect tax, transfer price tax etc areas of compliance

  • Provide oversight and collaborate with Credit functions for credit and collections

Steward:

  • Be the finance owner of companyfinance policy and internal controls

  • Implement and oversee SOX control framework and deliverables

  • Be the finance owner of statutory financial control compliance with regards to India Company Act and internal Audit/Internal Control requirements

  • Provide fiduciary oversightfor the India legalentity, in support of the local India entity board of directors, working closely with the company secretary function and legal function

  • Be an active gatekeeperto provide oversight on company assets.

  • Drive and support internal audit corrective and preventive actions

Catalyst / Strategist:

  • Support India country initiatives ensuring sound accounting and tax compliance adviceto achieve business results the right way

  • Support global finance and accounting initiatives including new accounting standards implementation

  • Deliver continuous process improvements and best practices across accounting value streams, leveraging shared services and BPO support

  • Participate in cross functional initiatives with a focus on improving the control environment, collaborating with other finance functions (business finance, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Credit) and other support functions (Pricing, Indirect Sourcing, Legal, Compliance, Channel, Regulatory etc)

  • Identify and contribute to working capital and free cashflow improvements

  • Proactively involved in business planning and legal/compliance reviews toidentify, assess and address controllership, financial & tax risks

  • Lead and develop a high performing and inclusive teamrecognized by functional colleagues and stakeholders

  • Be a role model in supporting and driving inclusion, diversity, equity and ethics initiatives

Success Measures:

  • Timely financial closing and reporting with minimized accounting surprises

  • On-time balance sheet reconciliation and deliverables

  • Unqualified legal entity statutoryfinancial audit

  • Timely and accurate statutory tax reporting and other compliance reporting

  • Improved operational KPI’s and efficiencies across accounting operations and value-streams

  • Timely closure of internal/external/SOX audit items

  • Contribute to working capital / FCF including cost savings, policy compliance, AR/DSO, Accounts Payable

  • # of continuous improvement projects and hours savings

  • Optimized entity FX, cashflow, and debt & equity structure

  • High team engagement and positive stakeholder feedback

Required knowledge , experience and educational level

  • University degree in accounting or finance or relevant discipline

  • Accounting qualification (e.g. CPA, ACCA, CIMA etc)

  • Progressive track record with 12+ years working experience with MNCs, minimum 5 years+experience in India

  • Extensive knowledge aboutfinancial and management accounting. US GAAP and/or IFRS exposure will be important.

  • In-depth understanding of India Financial Reporting Standards and other relevant regulations eg. the India Company Act and India tax and audit regulations

  • Handson experience in dealing withIndia direct, indirect tax, transfer price compliance subjects, statutory auditors, and regulatory agencies

  • Effective interpersonal, influential, collaboration and presentation skills

  • Strong data analytical and reporting skills

  • Proven people and team development and leadership skills
