Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

Provide

structured one-on-one interventions to a youth and his/her family that are designed to ameliorate behavioral health-related conditions that prevent age-appropriate social functioning. The

Therapeutic Mentor helps to ensure the youth's success in navigating various social contexts, learning new skills, and making functional progress. The Therapeutic Mentor offers supervision of these interactions and engages the youth in discussions about strategies for effective handling of peer and adult interactions.

One position for Marshall County, AL

One position for Jackson County, AL

They are each part time

REQUIRES AFTERNOON AND SOME WEEKEND AVAILABILITY

Examples of Job Requirements:

  • Support, coach and train the youth in age-appropriate behaviors.
  • Train, coach and support the youth to demonstrate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Provide linkages to recreational and social activities.
  • Provide assessment, training in basic living and coping skills, progress reporting, and transition planning.
  • Provide interventions and support to achieve established treatment goals that are assigned as part of an integrated service team for the youth.
  • Participate in supervision by a Rehabilitative Services Professional.
  • Maintain appropriate written clinical documentation to support each service, activity and session provided within the scope of the program.

Supervisor:

This position is typically supervised by a Program Coordinator/Program Director.

Required Qualifications:

Must meet criteria for Therapeutic Mentor as defined by Medicaid. The Therapeutic must meet the following minimum expectations:

  1. Must have capacity to work flexible hours including evening/weekend availability based on the needs of the client.
  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  3. May provide transportation to youth as necessary, and at times, climb stairs at client's homes.
  4. Must have a valid Alabama driver's license.
  5. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Must have basic typing/computer processing skills.
  7. Must be able to complete and pass the Therapeutic Mentor Provider Training approved and sponsored by ADMH.
