Western Colorado University Assistant Professor Of Nutrition Science in Gunnison, Colorado

Position Summary

The Department of Recreation, Exercise and Sport Science invites applicants for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Nutrition Science. The successful candidate will serve as the founding faculty of this new program, leading efforts in recruitment, retention, and program building. We seek applicants who are committed to undergraduate education, who can teach introductory as well as advanced nutrition courses to a diverse community of students and provide meaningful mentoring to students through career readiness, undergraduate research, field placements, and internships.

Candidates with a passion for teaching excellence in community nutrition, and nutrition assessment is desired. In addition, candidates with experience in and a desire to build a new program are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the Program Coordinator for the new Nutrition Science program with emphasis placed on program growth by supporting and promoting curricular innovation and instructional excellence in the field, student retention and opportunities in undergraduate research related to nutrition. The successful candidate will build connections with the Department and across campus to develop industry partnerships to initiate professional pathways for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in classes for a career in nutrition, public health, and/or further study in graduate programs. The successful candidate will advise students who are interested in the pre-dietetics emphasis on the necessary prerequisite work needed to enter an ACEND-accredited graduate program if desired. This new faculty member will teach four classes per semester, and be expected to maintain an active program of professional activity and university service.

Salary/Benefits

$59,000-$64,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience for Assistant Professor. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full-time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.

Minimum Qualifications

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist PhD in human nutrition, food/nutrition science, dietetics or closely related field; ABD considered with degree completion necessary for tenure Interest in and potential for mentoring undergraduate research projects Demonstrated commitment to DEIJ+ Ability to cultivate and grow community partners for student internships and field experiences

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching in Nutrition Science and/or Dietetics Experience with Food Systems Management and/or ServSafe relevant certifications Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses Experience working with diverse populations in rural communities Desire to build professional relationships within the Department and other academic units on campus
