Western Colorado University Adjunct Lecturer In The Genre Fiction in Gunnison, Colorado

Position:

Western Colorado University invites applications for a part-time Lecturer position in the Genre Fiction Concentration in the Graduate Program in Creative Writing. Courses are assigned on a semester-by-semester basis, and the typical assignment is one intensive 6-credit course per semester.

The Graduate Program in Creative Writing is a low-residency program that offers both Masters and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Creative Writing with concentrations in Genre Fiction, Nature Writing, Poetry, and Screenwriting, as well as a Masters concentration in Publishing. During the academic year, all of the Program s courses and events are delivered online, using Zoom and Canvas, and all part-time faculty work remotely. During the last week of July, students and working faculty are required to come to Western s campus in Gunnison, Colorado for the program s annual residency. Part-time faculty may be invited to teach at residency as part of their assigned course load. Candidates with a passion for the cultivation of thoughtful, socially conscious, community-focused genre fiction writers working in diverse genres and styles are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lecturer Responsibilities

Depending on their areas of expertise and the department s needs, faculty members are invited to teach from the variety of 6-credit classes offered to Genre Fiction students during the academic year, 3-credit residency-based courses offered during the summer, and 1-credit elective courses offered in the summer. Faculty members may also be offered the opportunity to mentor student thesis projects for an additional stipend.

The individual hired will model the Graduate Program in Creative Writing s values through inspirational energy, kindness and care for students, and a proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in education and the arts. This individual will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a high level of expertise in genre fiction, and varied, up-to-date experience in the industry. The individual will be an engaged member of the Genre Fiction faculty, attending regular faculty meetings and collaborating strongly with other members of the Genre Fiction faculty to provide the best possible educational experience for students. They will be a considerate and supportive colleague, and they will enthusiastically represent the program with internal and external constituents, as appropriate.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Lecturers possessing a terminal degree are paid $1500 per credit hour and those possessing a Master s degree are paid $1400 per credit hour. Mentor compensation is $3000 per project, regardless of degree held. This position does not include benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS:?

MA, MS, or terminal degree in creative writing, English, education, or closely-related field

At least 2 years experience in university-level teaching or close equivalent

Demonstrated commitment to?culturally responsive and anti-racist pedagogies?

Experience teaching online or hybrid courses

A demonstrated history of writing in and around genre fiction-specific spaces

Please note that applicant must meet at least two of the following criteria if they do not currently hold a terminal degree in creative writing, English, education, or closely related field:

At least one published novel in any genre or genres?

A variety of short fiction published in any genre or genres?

2+ years professional editorial or agenting experience?

The creation of a creative or business-related resource

Demonstrated expertise as a teacher, speaker, lecturer, or pedagogical researcher
