Assistant Building Maintenance Technician

Hourly Salary: $18.41 - $18.60
Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician is under direct supervision of the Building Maintenance Superintendent and/or the Lead Maintenance Technician. This position performs duties in construction and/or maintenance operations and will provide support in maintaining City of Gulfport facilities.
Essential Job Functions
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
• Execute inspections of buildings.
• Maintenance and repair of City properties.
• Conducts preventive maintenance inspections of buildings and facilities.
• Performs minor repair of electrical wiring.
• Performs minor repair of plumbing fixtures.
• Performs minor construction repair.
• Performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing repair, lighting repairs, HVAC tasks, and carpentry.
• Operates and uses a variety of tools and equipment related to the
maintenance function.
• Periodically required to perform after hours service calls including on call weekend status.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials tools and equipment utilized in area of work assignment. This will include being able to read blueprints and drawings and considerable knowledge in measurements.
• Knowledge of building and mechanical preventative maintenance
programs.
• Considerable knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with area of work assignment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to prepare routine work reports of activities undertaken.
• Ability to apply basis troubleshooting techniques in the field and resolve problems efficiently and independently...
• Ability to take an active part in building construction and maintenance activities.
• Electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills are required.
• Ability to operate construction equipment in a safe professional manner including trailer operations and hauling of same.
Education and Experience
High school graduate or equivalent; and two years' experience in one or more of the building trades.
Required Licenses or Certificates
Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license.

Requires the ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately for manipulating small items, and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment. Subject.
