Position: Fleet Orientation Instructor (CDL Required)
Job Description:
The Fleet Orientation Instructor is responsible for educating new Independent Contractors and their drivers with the knowledge, training and coaching of all facets of DOT, FMCSA, Forward Air commercial vehicle safety policies, and operational procedures. This will be accomplished through classroom lectures, demonstrations and/or hands on training. Instructor must be high energy, have a positive nature, and passionate about teaching and communicating their knowledge and experience. The Fleet Orientation Instructor is a key role within our fleet orientation department and will report to the Manager of Fleet Orientation.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Welcome all orientation guests with a smile and positivity to ensure they feel included and valued from Day 1
Collect of all required classroom required documents, tests, and other materials, and submit them to the appropriate departments
Instruct orientation guests on how to operate the vehicle simulator, and evaluate their performance
Identify orientation guests who may need to qualify with an official road test (ability to administer live road test is a plus)
Determine orientation guests who may require additional training or instruction
Deliver coaching all facets of Forward Air Commercial Vehicle safety policies
Partner with the orientation manager, recruiting manager, and recruiters to identify at risk drivers
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending and participating in appropriate training
Understand Federal Hours of Service regulations
Keep up to date on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices
Advocate for and promote safety among all drivers
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in training, instruction, or education within an adult learning environment, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry
Familiarity with or willingness to become familiar with DOT & FMCSA regulations related to commercial motor vehicle driver qualifications
Deliver high quality instruction to drivers through demonstration of our company core values
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Responsible for maintaining course standards, training requirements, and ensuring objectives are met
Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast-paced environment
Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments
Must be comfortable using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule
Skilled in prioritizing tasks, managing multiple responsibilities, and effectively managing time
Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic
Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Experience with Omnitracs ELD is a plus
Experience with Luma is a plus
Class A CDL license required
