Position Title: Operations & Maintenance Supervisor

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Department/Location: Office of Chief Ops Officer / Groton, SD

Position Purpose:

This position oversees the administration and supervision of day-to-day plant operations and maintenance to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Groton Generation Station. Additionally, this position will be responsible for ensuring a reliable supply of energy during peak energy demand periods.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage corrective maintenance when issues arise, ensuring repairs are done swiftly to minimize downtime.

  • Perform and oversee regular preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

  • Supervise and perform minor maintenance of the generator and turbine while outsourcing larger tasks.

  • Ensure all outages and de-rates are entered into Power Cost Incorporated (PCI) software for proper Southwest Power Pool (SPP) scheduling.

  • Monitor the daily SPP day ahead awards, ensure that they are accepted and met in a timely manner to prevent any market penalties.

  • Manage the purchasing, warehousing, and inventory of all plant equipment.

  • Supervise the preparation and submission of reports related to the plant operations and maintenance budget.

  • Perform ground maintenance (mowing, watering, snow removal), paint, and clean buildings as needed.

  • Operate and manage the gas pipeline that provides fuel to the plant, ensuring a steady and reliable supply for operations, which includes ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and effective communication between the operations, maintenance, and fuel supply teams to maintain uninterrupted plant performance.

  • Accountable for all plant reporting, such as monthly operations and maintenance report, reporting to Rural Utilities Service, daily reports, and other monitoring reports.

  • Responsible for adequate staffing and performance reviews.

Qualifications :

  • Two-year degree in an electrical or mechanical vocational program and seven years of power/oil/gas generation, or industrial facility experience; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and nine years of related operations or maintenance experience in a power/oil and gas generating station, or industrial facility.

  • Electrical or mechanical experience.

  • Prior experience acting as a lead, in a step-up role, or previous supervisory experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

  • This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) (PHMSA) qualified position

  • Required to obtain and maintain the qualifications necessary to operate and conduct maintenance on the Groton natural gas pipeline within one year of being hired.

  • A valid driver’s license.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires continuous sitting; and occasional standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, using a keyboard/computer, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position requires finger dexterity, good color vision and hearing. Frequent exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, and noise, and occasionally extreme heat and cold working conditions. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work at heights up to 200 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position requires the individual to be respirator qualified and be able to operate a motor vehicle. The incumbent must be able to provide work direction, supervise others, and work under pressure.
