Assistant Principal-Elementary School

Qualifications:

  • Current Iowa Administrator License with Evaluator Approval
  • Willingness to be part of a dynamic leadership team with demonstrated strength as an instructional leader.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both oral and written. A positive work record, which includes a high degree of organization, tact and patience.
  • Maintains confidentiality and integrity, showing initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the district.

The successful Assistant Principal candidate believes an effective elementary school:

  • Uses the distinctive nature of young learners as the foundation upon which all decisions about school organization, policies, curriculum, instruction, and assessment are made.
  • Ensures that every student learns and every member of the learning community is held to high expectations.
  • Advocates for and ensures every student's right to learn and provides appropriately challenging and relevant learning opportunities for every student.

The Assistant Principal will:

Manage the school in the absence of, and carry out the vision of, the principal.

Recommend plans and programs to improve the overall education program.

Assist in supervising and evaluating the performance of certified and classified personnel.

Assist in recommending teacher assignments, including supplementary assignments.

Administrate student behavior and discipline.

Manages organizational systems and resources for a safe, high-performing learning environment.

Assist the principal in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.

Assists the principal in curriculum initiatives pertaining to building and district goals, instructional models and assessments are implemented with fidelity.
