Actalent Mechanical Engineer - Cooling Systems in Greensboro, North Carolina

Job Description

As a Coolant Transfer Design Engineer for Thermal Hardware, you will provide professional expertise in Mechanical design for coolant transfer lines, including routing and bracketry. You will collaborate with other designers in development and implementation of thermal management solutions. Your responsibility includes working with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure high-quality product delivery. Coolant transfer systems are essential for maintaining thermal system balance and efficiency, specifically for heat exchangers and other components requiring coolant/energy exchange.

Responsibilities

  • Full design ownership of coolant transfer systems from conception to completion.

  • Lead continuous improvement activities including processes, tools, and methods, fostering innovation for Quality, Mass, and Cost initiatives.

  • Coordinate activities and requirements among Design groups and the Application center to develop balanced coolant distribution routing to meet functional thermal management system requirements.

  • Deliver project activities and milestones on time and within budget.

  • Problem solve and determine best methods to validate designs.

  • Document best practices and create know-how initiatives.

  • Manage tasks using analytical and critical thinking skills.

Essential Skills

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of related professional experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

  • Good understanding of physics principles for heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics for EV systems.

  • Minimum 2 years experience in thermal systems engineering, preferably in the EV automotive or Trucking Industry related to hardware design/release and troubleshooting.

  • Demonstrated experience in setting up new and innovative processes and/or methodologies.

  • Expertise in design documentation and product data management experience.

  • Advanced CAD (PTC CREO preferred) experience is required.

  • Working understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and generate engineering documents including drawings, technical specifications, test and validation procedures, and design best practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with new product development, especially in EV systems and fluid dynamics.

  • Ability to lead design reviews for automotive/trucking industry components, preferably coolant transfer systems.

  • Good interpretation of technical requirements for vehicle components, subsystems, and full systems.

  • Ability to conduct and lead DFMEA’s.

  • Working knowledge of how cooling circuits function in electric vehicles.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead design components and systems with minimal support.

  • Proficient in MS Office.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Cross-collaboration abilities.

Work Environment

The position is located in the Technical Center in Greensboro, NC. The work environment is open with no assigned desks. Lockers are provided.
