What you will do

In the ever-evolving transportation industry, Volvo Group North America (VGNA) and its Mack and Volvo truck brands are at the forefront of the shift toward zero-emission commercial vehicle and infrastructure solutions. As part of the Corporate Communications team, the Director – Corporate Communications will play a key role in the internal and external communications activities supporting this transformation, and our business as a whole.

The Director – Corporate Communications will work with the Communications team to develop and leverage the content, proof points and narratives we need to strengthen our brand identities, support our commercial strategies, and enhance our reputation across multiple audiences. The position will create and manage content used across internal and external channels for Volvo Group North America, Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America; be the go-to source of corporate information supporting our internal and external communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, and thought leadership initiatives; and manage a variety of communications issues, including those supporting our public affairs team. This role reports to the Senior Vice President – Corporate Communications.

Responsibilities of this role include:

• Create clear, persuasive written communications, including talking points, website content, press releases, social media posts, intranet articles, and stories.

• Oversee, maintain and leverage the department’s content/information hub, ensuring we have the up-to-date facts, proof points, and images needed to support communication and business initiatives across channels/audiences.

• Develop strong presentations, print/digital collateral, and narratives supporting corporate and brand initiatives.

• Seek new methods and creative strategies to increase the reach, effectiveness and audience engagement of our communications, CSR, and public affairs initiatives.

• Develop position statements and Q&A documents on a variety of issues important to the company and our brands.

• Support the department’s crisis communications planning and activities.

• Serve as a back-up media spokesperson.

• Support a variety of events and other departmental activities as needed.

Who are you?

A bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related fields is required with at least 10+ years of experience. You are a talented writer, a critical thinker, and thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

To be the perfect match for this role, your critical competencies will include:

• Superior ability to quickly understand complex information and translate it into clear, concise messages aligned with business goals and tailored to particular audiences.

• Ability to track down, synthesize and organize information and images into persuasive communications, with a focus on developing and maintaining strong narratives.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

• An obsession with accuracy, and strong attention to detail.

• Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and keep projects on track in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience in the communications aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Affairs.

• Ability to foster effective relationships internally and externally.

• Ability to think and execute strategically across all aspects of corporate communications.

• Being highly focused and self-initiating, with a results mindset.

• Proficiency working with digital communications applications, tools and technologies.

• Experience in vendor negotiations, agency relations and resource management.

• Thriving in a diverse and fast-paced team environment; effectively communicating with stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach and optimal result.

• Experience in working with top management, cross-functionally and cross-culturally.

• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and 365, with advanced PowerPoint and SharePoint capabilities; experience with content management systems a plus.
