The Assistant Director of Employee Engagement and Success provides strategic and operational support to the Executive Director of Employee Engagement & Success in developing and executing initiatives that foster a culture of excellence, engagement, and well-being for all North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ( NCAT ) employees. This position is critical to advancing the Aggie Experience, which aims to create a liberating and empowering environment that enables faculty, staff, and student employees to thrive and do their best work in support of the university’s mission.
The Assistant Director will be key in managing programs and activities designed to enhance employee recognition, wellness, professional development, and overall job satisfaction, thereby driving organizational success and employee retention. This includes developing and implementing effective employer branding and communication strategies that promote NCAT as an employer of choice, both internally and externally. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director to craft compelling narratives and messaging that showcase the university’s unique culture, values, and commitment to employee success. By leveraging various communication channels and platforms, the Assistant Director will ensure that NCAT’s employee value proposition is consistently and effectively communicated to current and prospective employees, strengthening the university’s ability to attract, engage, and retain top talent.
The Assistant Director will facilitate collaboration with stakeholders across the university, provide data-driven insights, and support continuous improvement efforts to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging work environment. This will involve working closely with areas such as Human Resources, University Relations, the Office of the Provost, and other administrative units to ensure alignment and consistency in employer branding and messaging.
Ultimately, the Assistant Director of Employee Engagement and Success’ efforts in employer branding and communication will be instrumental in creating a robust and positive reputation for NCA &T as a top employer of choice, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among employees, and advancing the university’s strategic goals around academic excellence, research impact, and community engagement.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
As a public, high-research activity land-grant university, North Carolina A&T is a research engine, education center and economic catalyst serving not only this state, but the nation. Requirements:
Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Organizational Development, Psychology, or a related field with at least three years of experience in employee engagement, organizational development, HR communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of five years of relative experience in the area of responsibility.
Proven ability to develop and implement employee engagement, wellness, or professional development programs.
Strong communication skills, including experience crafting messaging and content for internal and external audiences.
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across departments and with various stakeholders.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations.
Basic understanding of employer branding principles and strategies.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Organizational Development, Psychology, or a related field.
Five or more years of progressive experience in employee engagement, organizational development, or HR-related roles, preferably in higher education or large, complex organizations.
Experience managing employer branding efforts, including creating campaigns and crafting narratives to highlight organizational culture and values.
Strong project management skills, including experience with program assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
Familiarity with various communication channels and platforms, including social media, email marketing, and internal communication tools.
Knowledge of employee well-being and wellness initiatives, including stress management and wellness program design.
Advanced proficiency in data analytics tools and platforms to support strategic decision-making and program evaluation.
Proven experience with digital communication tools and social media platforms for internal and external engagement.
Directly related work experience in public higher education, non-profit, or other public governmental entity is preferred.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
