Nexstar Media Group Assistant News Director in Green Bay, Wisconsin

WFRV-TV in Green Bay, WI seeks a motivated and skilled individual to join our leadership team as an Assistant News Director.

  • Assisting in the management of the News Department

  • Participating in planning, staffing, training, and conducting performance evaluations for the News Department.

  • Providing coaching, leadership, and guidance in storytelling to team members.

  • Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control.

  • Conducting critiques of newscasts to enhance coverage and provide feedback to the news staff.

  • Offering valuable insights on hiring, evaluating, and promoting news personnel.

  • Help develop coverage plans for breaking news and special events

  • Collaborate with the News Director to establish goals and develop a strategic plan for the newsroom

  • Assigning projects to the team and ensuring that deadlines are consistently met.

  • Responsively addressing coverage questions and issues.

  • Filling in as a producer or assignment manager if needed.

  • Serves as the News Director in his/her absence.

    Work Experience:

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Experience in news leadership

  • An ability to identify the developmental needs of others and provide coaching and mentorship.

  • The capability to adapt effectively to daily coverage plans as new content and breaking news unfolds.

  • Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Effective listening skills to understand employee needs and collaborate with the team to develop solutions.

    Other Relevant Information:

  • This role operates in a high-stress environment with deadline pressures and the unpredictability of breaking news, which can occur anytime.

  • Day-to-day multitasking and simultaneous management of multiple projects with frequent changes in direction and priority are essential.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • The Assistant News Director must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift, set up, and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
