CITY OF GREEN BAY Assistant City Attorney in GREEN BAY, Wisconsin
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Acts as legal advisor and provides legal services to legislative body, committees, commissions, boards, authorities, City departments and public officials. Performs general municipal legal research, writing, and drafting. Assists in various legal matters, including open records requests. Drafts legislation and submits proposed ordinances for presentation and review at the request of Common Council or various committees, as well as policies, procedures, resolutions, legal briefs, legal memoranda, and other legal documents. Represents committees and boards in legislative and quasi-judicial proceedings. Prepares contracts, leases, and various real estate documents, including lien rights, mortgages, foreclosures, and evictions among others. Represents the City\'s interest in contract negotiations and carries out goals of such contracts. Assists the Department of Public Works and City Treasurer with tax or bill recovery, including bringing action to collect debts and subrogate claims. Initiates and defends against litigation and attends administrative hearings before state agencies as needed. Prepares briefs and researches appellate cases in state and federal courts. Prosecutes violations of City ordinances and assists in enforcement of code provisions. Performs other duties as assigned. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Good knowledge of City codes and ordinances and State law. Good knowledge of the principles of civil and criminal law and of the methods and practices of pleading, judicial procedures and the rules of evidence. Good knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, practices and references utilized in legal research. Good skill in analyzing, appraising and organizing facts, evidence and precedents to ascertain the determining aspects of cases and to present such material in a clear and logical form. Skill in determining alternative choices. Skill in conducting legal research and data analysis. Skill in determining proper courses of action. Skill in communicating complex ideas both orally and in writing. Skill in dealing with City departments, officials and the general public. Ability to maintain an impartial demeanor in political issues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software.
