The University of Northern Colorado is located in Greeley, Colorado, population over 100,000, an hour's drive north of Denver, and within driving distance of the Rocky Mountains. Lateral Hires – Applicants with qualified experience will be paid within the step system equivalent to their experience, up to $80,976 annually for 5+ years of experience. Qualified experience must come from a municipal, state, county, or university policing agency, where the applicant served as a patrol officer, investigator, or supervisor. In order to qualify as a lateral, applicants must be currently employed, or employed within the last 6 months at a law enforcement agency.

POST-certified applicants who do notmeet the criteria for lateral pay, will begin at the base salary and progress through the step system.

This announcement may be used to make multiple hires for current and future Police Officer I vacancies. The eligible list may be periodically refreshed to maintain a current pool of interested candidates.

To provide uniform patrol and police services to the university community on all property owned or controlled by the University Of Northern Colorado.

  • Patrols campus to prevent or discover criminal activity.

  • Responds to calls for service concerning both criminal and non-criminal activity.

  • Conducts field interviews of suspicious persons/conduct, investigates criminal actions, collects evidence, interviews victims/witnesses/suspects, makes arrests or detentions as appropriate.

  • Conducts traffic enforcement for motor vehicle violations. Investigates motor vehicle accidents.

  • Prepares reports concerning all activity. Completes reports on criminal actions for presentation to the district Attorney for prosecution. Completes reports for University administrative action.

  • Testifies in court and at university hearings.

  • Insures all citations, forms and procedures are completed correctly and accurately.

  • Ensures all evidence is logged and stored properly.

  • Responds to medical emergencies and renders first aid care until the arrival of Paramedics.

  • Assists as needed, gathers information about victim, condition, history and facts of injury.

  • Provide crowd control.

  • Assist with rescue, carry litter, supplies/special equipment as needed, climb ladders.

  • Provide traffic direction/control as needed.

  • Provides assistance and support to the University Community through money escorts, crowd control at athletic events, security at concerts and parties, performing security surveys, developing and presenting crime prevention programs, providing motorist assist, unlocking facilities, delivering emergency messages, checking security of buildings.

  • Provides assistance and support to the Community of Greeley and Evans by participating in mutual aid activities with Greeley and Evans Police Departments.

  • Assists with major motor vehicle accidents, traffic control, disturbances, riots, major criminal activity, investigations, parades and special events.

  • Responds to alarms; fire, intrusion, robbery, panic for protection of lives and property. Evacuates buildings, determines cause of alarm, summons proper persons/agencies, or corrects problem.

  • Participates in training, both in-service and specialized and maintains proficiency with firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics and first aid skills.

  • Performs other duties as assigned; vehicle maintenance, deliver documents, provide escorts, handle animal complaints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification

One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position

Substitutions:

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
