River House House Advocate in Grayling, Michigan

Job Summary:

The House Advocate is responsible for coverage of River House Shelter and Crisis Line. Coverage of the shelter consists of assisting the residents in meeting their emotional and physical needs, answering the crisis line, text line and emails. Conducting intake interviews, maintaining shelter safety, overseeing housekeeping and light physical maintenance of the inside of the shelter, and providing emergency on-call assistance and crisis intervention services.

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Ability to relate to individuals in crisis. Must be able to relate easily to people and show empathy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Has working knowledge of computers. 

Full-time advocates also rotate in an on-call schedule for transporting clients into shelter or meeting clients at the hospital or police department in emergency situations. This is an entry level position with paid training.

This position is primarily weeknights and / or weekends (3) 12 hour shifts per week and 2 meetings per month.

Full-time employees receive Paid Time Off on an accrual basis (PTO) after probationary period, and are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
