Position Overview
Welcome to the role ofSr. Aerial Construction Technician- In this position, you will stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines. This individual will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines. This position requires proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position provides leadership in the field and is able to perform and direct more complex assignments. The work performed will be within communications and power spaces.
This individual understands each product and manages the improvement of operational efficiency. They must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces for this position.
What You'll Do
- Safely perform work in communication and energized spaces
- Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cab
- Record and report the sequential foot marks by the operator or groundman
- Assist when needed to pull and hand off hardware
- Responsible for framing poles
- Pull cable, strand, fiber, and lash, for extended periods of time
- Provide framing and attachment hardware for operator, jack down guys, pull lasher
- Attend the reel to ensure uniform deployment of strand and fiber optic cable
- Monitor basic gauges to determine tension and pressure on the cable lines
- Monitor cable during installs for appropriate tension during critical turning points and transitions
- Recognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards such as missing and or degraded parts and hardware
- Identify the location of and direct the navigation of the crew into Energized Spaces
- Participate in pre-construction surveys and ride-outs to inform project strategy
- Read, interpret, and modify design packages
- Responsible for completing time and material (TandM) documentation
- Complete documentation to include record-keeping, billing, inventory, etc.
- Complete daily close of business (COB) reports for customers
- Responsible to communicate directly with customers
- Responsible for leading multiple crews simultaneously
- Ensure work is performed and projects are completed to engineering and design specifications
- Provide training for climbers in tasks including body placement and equipment inspections
- Oversee 3rd party optical ground wire (OPGW) installation
- Perform minor field repairs on equipment (i.e., reel trailer, bucket and placer truck, and winder trailer)
- Lead, mentor, and train field personnel
- Provide feedback and input for employee performance reviews
Working Conditions
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- Climb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spaces
- Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions
- Able to walk long distances
- Able to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
