The Distribution Operations Engineer Lead is responsible for leading a group of Engineers in ensuring that the Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) system is operating within system/equipment capabilities for both current and proposed operating configurations and optimizing system risk of exceeding these capabilities. The person in this position will be accountable for the development/maintenance/use of system models and distribution SCADA technology to ensure that system operations are managed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner as set forth by the policies, procedures and guidelines of Consumers Energy, MIOSHA, and MPSC. Continuous attention to process improvements is expected from the individual in this position.
The Distribution Operations Engineer Lead applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments in related fields; makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods; and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines. Supervises and mentors other engineers.
This position reports to the Grid Management - Operations Planning Manager located at Parnall East in Jackson, Michigan. Operations Planning oversees the integrity of Consumers Energy's Electric Grid by providing engineering and outage scheduling support to the System and Distribution Control Centers (SCC and DCC).
The Distribution Operations Engineer Lead is responsible for ensuring that the Consumers Energy electric system is operated within system and equipment capabilities. This position will utilize their collective knowledge of CE’s LVD & HVD systems, distribution power flow software and distribution SCADA technologies to support Fault Analysis, Volt VAR Optimization (VVO), Distribution Power Flow programs and other Distribution Management System applications. The individual in this position will work closely with engineering groups, SCC, DCC, WMC, and other operational support organizations. Participation in an on-call rotation to provide real-time support to the Distribution Control Center, including storm restoration activities, is required.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college.
7 or more years of applied exempt engineering working experience.

Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with industry peers.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
Travel may be required to job sites and project meetings.
Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities.
Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential storms.
Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays.
Individual must have the ability to work up to 16 continuous hours during emergent work.
Individuals must have a valid driver’s license.
