Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

The Lead Test Systems Design Engineer – Avionics will design and develop automated test systems (ATEs) and test programs for design verification and production testing of electronic avionics assemblies. This will include the management of requirements, design of electronic circuits and development of test software to attain full test automation, as well as integration of hardware & software into complete system.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs ATEs, hardware and software on new product development programs and replacement of existing test systems, supporting a variety of complex electronic aerospace applications.

  • Develops in-depth knowledge of automated test engineering discipline.

  • Leads development of the test equipment through all phases of the project: Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Hardware/Software Design, Integration, Verification.

  • Influences overall test strategy, test data analytics, and board test strategies for manufacturing.

  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies test engineering techniques & procedures.

  • Controls schedules, forecasting and budgets on the TE development execution.

  • Generates test software and designs electrical test hardware, leads corresponding design reviews.

  • Creates test design documentation.

  • Mentors and coaches other test engineers in technology, design and processes.

  • Works closely with the R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Engineering teams.

  • Provides technical support to manufacturing.

  • Prepares material for and participates in customer reviews and presentations.

  • Provides timely communications to project leadership on significant issues or developments.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of experience in a Test Engineering role developing automated test systems for complex electronic products.

  • Proficiency in software development using National Instruments TestStand, C/C++/C#, LabWindows/CVI

  • Circuit design capability for test equipment (signal conditioning, signal conversion, stimulus synthesis, filtering cable harness design, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with processor-based electronics hardware, especially with respect to test and diagnostics

  • Familiarity with interfaces including but not limited to analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825, etc.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and achieve milestones and deliverables.

  • Systems engineering approach to development
