Qualifications:

  1. New York State Certification as a School District Leader

(SDL), or School District Administrator (SDA)

  1. Ten or more years of combined experience as a classroom teacher, supervisor and/or administrator

  2. Knowledge of current curriculum, instruction, and assessment initiatives

  3. Knowledge of Education Law/Civil Service Law/Regulations as applicable to personnel

  4. Proven experience facilitating professional development for all district employees

  5. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills

  6. Understanding of the district's mission and vision with an ability to support district initiatives

Reports to:

Superintendent of Schools

Duties:

  • Develop and implement policies and regulations relating to curriculum and instruction.

  • Provide leadership to committees charged with the development of specific programs.

  • Prepare budget for curriculum and staff development and other programs directly supervised.

  • Conduct teacher and principal evaluations.

  • Establish, coordinate and interpret district wide testing and student evaluation programs and prepare required SED reports.

  • Supervise all locally developed curriculum maps, guides, benchmark assessments and common formative assessments.

  • Secure and develop instructional resources such as software, textbooks and educational technology.

  • Understand and implement the district's mission, vision and initiatives and provide support with other district leaders in their efforts to realize the district's goals.

  • Work collaboratively with the fellow assistant superintendents on federal and state grants.

  • Support the continued growth and development of all stakeholders.

  • Organize the recruitment and employment of all district personnel.

  • Professional staff - coordinate recruitment, on-boarding and retention

  • Service employees - coordinate recruitment, on-boarding and continuation of employment in accordance with Civil Service regulations

  • Serve as district's Civil Service Appointing Officer

  • Evaluate all prospective candidates' credentials and experience to make salary/wage recommendations to the Superintendent.

  • Assume responsibility for maintenance of employee benefit programs including determination of eligibility, enrollment and/or cancellation of health insurance, life insurance, and retirement system membership.

  • Oversee district employee personnel files and databases, including those related to seniority.

  • Plan and lead training/professional development sessions for all instructional and noninstructional employees.

  • Facilitate in-service and collaborate with key stakeholders in regard to employee health and safety.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
