VILLAGE OF GRAFTON Contract Building Inspector in GRAFTON, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Major Duties/Essential Functions: Inspects various commercial and residential structures during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations, including those relating to building, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and zoning; performs follow-up inspections to ensure compliance. Enforces local and State codes by reviewing inspection requests and complaints concerning code violations; identifies and documents violations; follows up on all corrective action by reviewing and re-inspecting sites to assure corrections have been made. Works with the Building Inspector on issuing citations. Minor Duties/Responsibilities: Performs plan reviews for residential and commercial construction projects within the Village as directed by the Building Inspector. This includes compliance review of local and State codes relating to building, heating, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, and erosion control activities. Updates supervisor on a regular basis regarding scheduling, open projects, issues and concerns, work procedures and process improvement ideas. Notifies appropriate staff member(s) of any violations of Village ordinances or regulations not in the primary area of responsibility of this position. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, materials and procedures generally used in the building construction trades. Working knowledge of all types of construction methods, excavations, foundations, roofs, State codes, Village codes and ordinances. Knowledge of construction site safety including personal protective equipment. The ability to read and understand codes, ordinances and complicated plans and construction drawings. The ability to recognize ordinance and code violations and affect corrective action. The ability to work independently. The ability to plan, organize, manage and administer projects requiring coordination with others. The ability to work effectively with contractors, developers, other agencies and the public. The ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with employees, other departments, the public, and elected officials. The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. The ability to ensure compliance with and follow standard safety practices and procedures common to building inspection programs. Skill in review and analysis of design, plans or actual site structures to determine compliance with acceptable standards. Skill in the operations of the equipment common to the work unit.
