Responsibilities Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant, instructing groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs. Such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course, using a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to participants who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Teaches children as well as adults. Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority. Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits. Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or field work program will be considered highly qualified. Best Qualifying Criteria: - Experience in a combination of rock climbing, hiking, paddle-sports, snow-sports - Professional certifications in a combination of rock climbing, hiking, paddle-sports, snow-sports - Experience with the Rectrac Point of Sale system - Experience in instructing outdoor recreational sports Referral lists are based on the qualifications stated in the job announcement. Pay-Band Allowances and Differentials Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. Sunday premium may be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
