Reports To: Hatchery Manager

Location: Goldsboro, NC

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Purpose  Lead the team of maintenance employees on all hatchery mechanics and machinery.  Keeps machines working and safe to use including safety devices around the facility.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation.  Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world.  The Maintenance Lead is responsible for:  

Conducts frequent checks around the hatchery, monitoring the hatchers and incubators and the temperatures and pressures in the hallways.

  • Leads the maintenance employees, ensuring employees follow the schedule for making rounds in the hatchery to address issues as soon as they arise.

  • Checks with department leads for any mechanical issues.

  • Personally, makes rounds to check machinery when possible.

  • Addresses any issue that arises, and prioritizes repairs, when necessary, with the Hatchery Manager.

  • Orders mechanical parts when necessary.

    The work requires the maintenance Lead to:

  • Follow all of the company’s rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety.

  • Be organized and able to prioritize tasks given by the Hatchery Manager to attend to around the hatchery.

  • Be highly knowledgeable about the machinery at the hatchery and the ways to fix all issues that occur.

  • Be able to work with a variety of tools and equipment.

  • Be organized and able to prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations at the hatchery.

  • Able to perform the duties of the job including the ability to be constantly moving, to occasionally lift heavy objects, to be exposed to dust, humidity, heat chemicals and fumes.

  • Assist where needed in the hatchery, filing in the event of an absence on the maintenance team or when they are on PTO.

  • Be available to work an extended workday and other days, if needed.

    Accountabilities  

  • Repair equipment and assist  as needed

  • Monitor all machinery within the hatchery for electrical and mechanical issues.

  • Repair and /or direct the repair of the equipment as needed.

  • Conduct regular check-ins with departmental leads

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

  • Follow all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and safety.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Hatchery Manager.

    Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience in mechanical and electrical repairs required.

  • Knowledge and experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred.

  • Ability to walk and move constantly, use hands for the entire work shift, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; bend, stoop and squat to complete job duties; to be exposed to dust, humidity, heat and cold; and to have excellent hand-eye coordination for repairing the machines.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • A solid understanding of basic business practices.

  • The ability to be self-sufficient and to organize and prioritize work.

  • Has to have good business judgment, make quick decisions and work under presser.

  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record required.

  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills a plus.
