Colorado School of Mines is currently seeking an experienced, motivated, customer service-oriented individual with strong written and verbal communication skills and working knowledge of Fire Life Safety Systems to join our team. The function of the Fire Life Safety Technician (Pipe/Mechanical Trades II) is to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, replace, rebuild, install, test, inspect, and modify existing fire protection systems.

Description of Job
This position exists to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, replace, rebuild, install, test, inspect, and modify existing water based fire systems and fire life safety systems which include, backflow prevention devices, eyewash stations, ansul systems, special hazards systems, kitchen fire suppression systems, and fume hoods on the CSM campus. This position will assist in the development and maintenance of testing procedures for the items listed above based on the requirements in NFPA 25.
This position has the licenses to install Fire Suppression systems on behalf of the Colorado School of Mines for minor additions and remodels involving fire sprinkler systems. This position performs duties of the CSM fire impairment coordinator.
Perform tasks described in the preventive maintenance program which include fire suppression inspection, testing, install, troubleshooting, modifications, record keeping and repair. Backflow inspection, testing, record keeping and repair.
Emergency Eyewash/shower inspection testing, record keeping and repair. Report unusual equipment conditions such as inoperable, leaking and worn equipment and unusual equipment functions. Collects required information for equipment and parts for the preventative maintenance program. Completes required paperwork including recording preventative maintenance work order tasks, and labor activities. Coordinates with contractors for permits with fire sprinkler modifications and installations and testing of ansul systems, special hazards systems, kitchen fire suppression systems, and fume hoods. Monitors and inspects for code compliance and campus standards all fire sprinkler new construction performed by contractors. These activities require computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Excel and Word Etc. This duty requires a Registered Contractor-Backflow for the Colorado School of Mines.
Duties Include:
Reviewing, creating, coordinating and verifying completion of Fire Life Safety testing.
Working with Environmental Health and Safety for tasks and frequencies and testing of the systems as needed with the Electrical shop, HVAC shop, Controls shop and the Plumbing shop.
Consult and collaborate with authorities and campus staff and faculty to comply with regulatory requirement referring to campus standards, NFPA, IFC for code complaint on new and existing work.
Collaborates with other trades mechanics in the operation and testing of Fire sprinklers, Ansul systems and backflow preventers with the more technical aspects of preventive maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of Fire suppression and safety equipment.
Acts as the primary fire systems impairment coordinator ensuring procedures are in place to avoid property loss and injury to personnel during and impairment to any Fire life safety devices, and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Three years of experience of experience in pipe mechanical trades which relates to the duties of this position as described above.
Must have sufficient computer skills to enter work orders into a computerized work order system, use email and perform basic spreadsheet and word processor computer work.
Substitutions:
Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS OR OTHER DOCUMENTATION TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS SUBSTITUTION.
Necessary Special Requirements
A current Colorado driver license is required and must be maintained during employment. A copy of your current motor vehicle record (MVR) will be required as a condition of hire. Must be physically able to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting 100 pounds.A Colorado Backflow Tester Certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
