Senior Buyer

Your key deliverables:

This position purchases assigned items such as specific commodities, machinery, precision tools, test equipment, etc. ensuring the meeting of quality, delivery, and specification requirements at the lowest possible cost. Sources new suppliers, negotiates prices/terms and conditions, assesses supplier performance, requests corrective action when required, and expedites material orders to ensure timely and economical completion of customer requirements.

  • Balances current and future demand requirements with supplier capabilities/capacities to ensure completion of customer requirements

  • Prepares competitive bidding documentation and evaluates supplier quotations to select sources of supply utilizing commercially available sources to verify financial stability

  • Negotiates contractual terms regarding quantity, price, delivery, quality, freight routings, and other standard or special contract terms

  • Evaluates current and potential sources of supply to identify and prioritize areas requiring new sources of supply or performance improvement

  • Expedites supplier material, where required, to meet shortfall between current plan and customer order requirements

  • Coordinates with Accounts Payable on billing and/or credit issues

  • Arranges for or assists in the disposal of surplus material

  • Coordinates the return, rework, or exchange of defective materials

  • Supports cost reduction projects and improvement initiatives to achieve overall business objectives

  • Analyzes data, including enterprise requirements planning information and prepares reports as needed to facilitate and recommend actions to ensure optimal delivery of supplier materials


Are you?

  • Previous industry experience in defense, aerospace, utilities or Manufacturing technology is ideal

  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills including a comprehensive understanding of business principles.

  • Ability to interface at all levels. Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

  • Strong computer/technical, organizational, and blueprint reading skills.

  • Possessing the following leadership characteristics: handling ambiguity; flexibility; integrity; leading change; learning agility; strategic agility; and vision.

  • Thorough understanding of negotiation techniques and tactics

  • Understanding of Supply Chain Management operational concepts surrounding purchasing, logistics, incoming product inspection and inventory control

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others

  • Ability to logically solve problems and to keep projects moving in an orderly and structured fashion

Preferred Qualifications/Not Essential

  • CIPS qualification or be studying towards CIPS

  • Minimum 5 years sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment involving purchasing

  • Use of and deployment of electronic purchasing systems (eRFQ), VMI, and consignment, a plus

  • Aerospace, hydraulic, pneumatic and/or machined parts manufacturing, engineering, cost, and/or procurement requirements knowledge/experience

  • Proficiency with computers including MS Office and MRP systems.

  • Familiarity/experience with lean manufacturing, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement techniques (i.e. RCCA, Six Sigma methodology)

  • Working knowledge of ISO-9001, AS9100

  • Preferred experience of 5 years in purchasing/procurement in an Aerospace manufacturing environment supporting direct materials such as complex machine components, LRUs, castings, electric motors

  • Strong leadership ability to help other team members and provide guidance and support.
