Rowan University Preschool Teacher (Teacher 2, 12-Months) - Early Childhood Demonstration Center, College of Education in Glassboro, New Jersey

Rowan University’s is seeking a qualified preschool teacher with a genuine passion for providing excellent care for children in our on-site Preschool.

The Rowan University Early Childhood Demonstration Center is a NAEYC accredited and NJ licensed early learning center serving children ages 3-6. Through hands-on, play-based learning and emergent projects, the ECDC provides children of the Rowan and surrounding communities a unique opportunity to grow and thrive on our vibrant campus. Our preschool partners with academic programs throughout the University providing specialized learning experiences for children and experiential learning for our university students.

Under the direction of the ECDC Director, the Teacher, plans, executes, and evaluates lessons and educational experiences and performs these duties exercising independent judgment and comprehensive knowledge of best practices. The preschool teacher will have knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practices for young children, as well as state and national guidelines and standards for child care centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains up-to-date lesson plans, cumulative pupil records, and evaluative data.

  • Plans a balanced curriculum.

  • Participates in the development of an educational curriculum.

  • Provides individualized instruction and remedial techniques when the needed.

  • Prepares informal progress notes on each pupil monthly (minimally).

  • Establish and implement a daily routine in accordance with best practices that includes time for independent, small and large group learning opportunities, motor development opportunities, and health and nutritional development.

  • Create and maintain a safe and nurturing environment that promotes learning, inquiry, and discovery and which values diversity and inclusion.

  • Document child progress in daily observations, anecdotal records, etc.

  • Communicate regularly with families while creating positive interpersonal relationships.

  • Promote positive behaviors among children utilizing proactive and positive approaches to classroom management.

  • Collect records pertaining to the classroom, including daily attendance.

  • Maintain a professional atmosphere in the classroom and the school community.

  • Assist the Director in implementing, maintaining, and documenting the standards of GROW NJ KIDS and NAEYC.

  • Maintains a clean, safe and orderly classroom.

  • Encourages, guides and assists student leaders.

  • Maintains professional certification by participating in professional development opportunities.

  • Uses appropriate technology to communicate with peers, administration and students.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Possession of a valid New Jersey Teacher's Certificate (Standard, Emergency or Provisional Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing or Certificate of Eligibility) or Permanent Endorsement, issued by the Board of Examiners of the New Jersey Department of Education, authorizing instruction at the preschool level.

  • NOTE: Caring for young children includes certain physical, mental, and sensory demands. Candidates for this position should be able to and prepared to lift small children, sit on the floor or child-sized furniture, actively engage in gross motor play, assist children with toileting and other hygienic functions, and work in an environment that may be noisy and busy.

    Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a school, preschool or child care facility for young children.

  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and program coordination skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Note: Teacher 2 is utilized to teach differing student populations and different content areas; therefore, the specific teaching certificate may vary

    Note: A valid Orientation and Mobility Instructor Certificate, issued by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Specialists or the National Blindness Certification Board, may be substituted for the educational requirement listed above, within the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired

    Note: Emergency Certification may be issued only in the fields of teacher of the blind and partially sighted and teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. Provisional Certification is a temporary one-year certificate issued in disciplines other than those appropriate for Emergency Certification, as previously defined

    Special Note: Ability to physically lift, move, and position students

    License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
