  • Our Scotland Land Team is made up of land consultants, property specialists, utility and topographical surveyors and engagement specialists working across our Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth offices.

  • We work closely with our Land colleagues across the UK and Ireland delivering land services on a variety of projects across the Transport, Energy, Rail, Active Travel and Local Authority Sectors.

  • We work locally, making a difference to Scotland projects but also nationally with other WSP teams, using in-house land information and consultation databases alongside GIS systems, with a focus on innovation and quality.

You will have the opportunity to work as part of the largest Land Referencing business in the UK, working on high profile projects with a broad range of clients in the Transport, Energy, Rail, Active Travel and Local Authority Sectors.

The role will involve:

  • Identification of landowners, occupiers and other parties that hold a legal interest in land, through interpretation and research of the Registers of Scotland Land Register, General Register of Sasines, and National Records of Scotland, as well as other open-source information.

  • Contribute to the WSP Land Team delivery and success of supporting the delivery of high-profile infrastructure projects within Scotland and the wider UK and Ireland business.

  • Supporting the Land team and providing clients with appropriate and sound technical advice in the relation to the delivery of information that underpins land access activities, landowner engagement, optioneering and statutory processes.

  • Training and mentoring of other team members.

  • Inputs to work-winning activities.

  • Reporting to a senior member of the Land Team for WSP in Scotland.

  • Demonstrable experience of Land Referencing and/or land acquisition processes, including researching and identifying landowners/occupiers, land interests and rights, particularly within Scotland.

  • Demonstrable experience of searching and interpreting the Registers of Scotland Land Register, General Register of Sasines and National Records of Scotland (essential).

  • An interest in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across a significant pipeline of infrastructure projects in a front-facing role for clients.

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of one or more statutory consents requirements (such as CPO, GVD, TWAO, DCO, Hybrid Bill) as well as an understanding of the land and property industry, with a particular focus on Scottish Legislation.

  • Experience of training, mentoring and transferring technical knowledge to other colleagues and the ability to undertake technical assurance of other colleagues’ work.

  • Drive and enthusiasm to create strong technical work

  • Good commercial awareness with an understanding of budget, scope, change control and other project management activities.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and organisational skills with the ability to comfortably liaise with internal and external clients.

  • A degree in Geography (or relevant discipline) or relevant technical experience.

  • A full drivers’ licence would be advantageous.
