About You

Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional who is highly motivated to fill the position of Community Risk Reduction Coordinator in the Fire Department.

The Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Coordinator is a Non-Sworn Public Safety position reporting to the CRR Manager. The CRR Coordinator collaborates with other Community Risk Reduction Team members and Fire Department staff to analyze risks and develop data-driven programs that educate and support the community. This position is responsible for developing, recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising fire volunteers to support the department’s functions and programs. Additionally, the CRR Coordinator assists in facilitating the delivery of community public education and risk reduction program materials and creating and marketing CRR educational materials.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Volunteer Management, Education, Public Safety, Social Work, or a related field

  • 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management and/or education, public safety, public health or related fields

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

  • Willingness and ability to work outside traditional office hours.

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Arizona driver’s license

  • Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire

  • CPR and First Aid Instructor – within one year of hire

  • NHSTA Child Passenger Car Seat Technician – within six months of hire

    This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt – eligible for overtime compensation.

  • Select and complete the process for credentialing volunteers, including fingerprinting and background checks.

  • Develop volunteer programs and provide orientation and consistent training to the volunteers within these programs.

  • Create and deliver training for volunteers and provide volunteer management training to department staff.

  • Develop, promote, and maintain various volunteer opportunities within the fire department.

  • Provide volunteer training in essential crisis relief and recovery procedures for community members involved in a fire, accident, or emergency situation.

  • Plan volunteer engagement events for the Fire Department.

  • Gather and analyze data to measure the success of volunteer-led programs, establishing metrics for effectiveness.

  • Complete and maintain the required database and reporting on volunteers, including the ability to manage, analyze, and present the data.

  • Make verbal presentations to the public, Town Employees, community partners, organizations, and agencies on risk reduction programs.

  • Assist with facilitating Community Public Education courses and Fire and Life safety programs, covering topics such as COM 251, smoke detectors, home safety visits, fall prevention, CPR/AED, and child passenger safety.

  • Produce and distribute educational materials

  • Collaborate with other town departments, volunteer coordinators, and program managers to achieve organizational goals.

  • Assist the CRR Manager with program implementation and coordination with other agencies.

  • Utilize computerized data across platforms to measure program performance

  • Evaluate volunteer performance, including hours worked, providing feedback and recognition.

  • Autonomously manages volunteer utilization during emergency response situations.

  • Employees in this class may be required to work evenings and/or weekends for training or events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations

  • Methods of volunteer recruitment and retainment

  • SKILL IN:

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written

  • Data collection, warehousing, and data reporting

  • Supervision of volunteers

  • Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively

  • ADA and Work Conditions:

    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time. Also requires stooping, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
