GENERAL SUMMARY

The EMT-P is a care giver who functions as a team leader when responding to emergency calls or during emergency calls or during emergency transport. In the care giver role, the EMT-/B-I-P, assumes the responsibility for the emergency treatment and routine transfers of patients. As field leader, the EMT/I-P directs and oversees the care given by their co-workers, other EMS personnel, and bystanders via delegation for highest level of care, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation. EMT-B-I perform patient care technician duties in ER within their licensure as directed by RN.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs data collection regarding patient care needs in a systemic manner, focusing in physiologic, psychological and cognitive status.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to perform triage at the filed site and when arranging for prompt treatment.
  3. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills adhering to predefined procedures for their level of licensure.
  4. Implements appropriate measures to meet the patients/significant others learning needs. Provides community education through participation in community events and explaining EMS services.
  5. Performs documentation responsibilities as identified by the Ambulance Service and EMS system that is timely, legible, accurate and concise.
  6. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patients/significant others rights.
  7. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  8. Functions with an awareness of adherence to safety issues as identified within the institution. Participates in safety surveys as requested by Safety Coordinator.
  9. Demonstrates applied knowledge base as evidenced by sound actions in the delivery of pre-hospital care.
  10. Demonstrates an awareness of personal responsibility and accountability for their own actions.
  11. Educates the patient and the public on various facets of the Emergency Medical System; how to access emergency help, when to call for help, and about the services of the Gibson Area Ambulance Service.
  12. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participates in monthly continuing education to meet own development needs. Takes initiative to seek additional learning opportunities to expand knowledge.
  13. Participates in development and attainment of goals for the Gibson Area Ambulance Service.
  14. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills in emergency and non-emergency situations. Always attempts to receive and give information in a timely, concise, clear, and positive manner.
  15. Uses effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, police and fire departments.
  16. Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing problems.
  17. Demonstrates problem identification skills and demonstrates sound decision-making ability based on current EMS protocols.
  18. Provides support to other departments within the organization.
  19. Performs other duties within the organization as assigned.
