Are you ready to shape the future of medicine? The race is on to speed up drug discovery and development to find answers for patients and their families. Your skills could be critical in helping our teams accelerate progress. Join our Discovery Lead Characterisation team as Associate Scientist and you’ll be involved in the further optimization of our droplet microfluidics platform and its implementation in the NANOBODY® Discovery workflow.

Next to maintaining, troubleshooting and optimizing the platform, you will also develop and execute high-throughput cell-based functional assays in droplets to screen and identify NANOBODY® drug candidates. These activities will support the NANOBODY® Discovery campaigns in different therapeutic areas (e.g. immuno-oncology, immunology, inflammation, etc.).

Our team is dedicated to creating new antibody-based medicines called NANOBODY® molecules which are making a real difference to society. Ghent site currently has over 400 people working on the development of NANOBODY® proteins for the treatment of a wide range of diseases, including inflammation, immuno-oncology, and rare diseases.

Main responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to project-oriented teams.

  • Perform cell-based assays (e.g. ligand binding, cell signalling).

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and optimize microfluidic and optical set-ups.

  • Be involved in data analysis & interpretation, prepare written reports of your results, and communicate results and observations to the team.

  • Use mammalian cell culture technologies including cell line generation, maintenance & quality control of cell lines (expression of target protein).

  • Perform flow cytometry experiments and biochemical assays.

About you

Experience:

  • Experience in biomedical/biotech lab performing biomedical assays is mandatory (either from first job experience, internship or thesis/studies).

  • Previous experience in maintenance of microscopes, with microfluidics technology, or programming in LabView is preferred.

Soft and technical skills:

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, perseverance and can-do attitude.

  • Technical ability in combination with a hands-on mentality.

  • High sense for quality, accuracy and detail.

  • A team-oriented attitude, flexibility, enthusiasm and ability to work independently.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Bioengineering or equivalent.

Languages:

  • Ability to report and discuss experimental design and data in English.
