EchoStar Engineer III - Customer Networks (Network Development Engineer, Enterprise Network Engineer) in GERMANTOWN, Maryland
EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer III - Customer Networks (Network Development Engineer) in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.
Responsibilities:
Leverage your expertise in troubleshooting and engineering large-scale customer networks to develop and implement automated processes that improve efficiency and reliability.
Collaborate with team members to gather requirements and design scalable, secure, and maintainable workflows, integrating cloud networking experience where applicable.
Create and maintain scripts to automate repetitive tasks, optimize operations, and reduce manual effort.
Analyze vendor-specific API documentation to develop vendor-agnostic solutions for day-to-day network management activities.
Work autonomously and self-direct while thriving in a team environment.
Deliver customer-facing projects and demonstrate solutions following Agile methodology.
Utilize version control systems (e.g., Git) effectively, ensuring collaborative and efficient development workflows.
Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers, analyzing and troubleshooting issues.
Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth, sharing knowledge and insights to strengthen team capabilities.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
4+ years' experience in related field
Preferred Qualifications
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Python programming for network automation
Deep understanding of network infrastructure, protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, ARP, VLAN), and services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, VPNs, SD-WAN).
Experience with creating and using RESTful APIs
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex network and software issues.
Experience with network vendors like Fortinet, Velocloud and Meraki and certifications
Knowledge of containerization and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Understanding of DevOps practices and tools.
